6 Day Machu Picchu Tour




This 6 day tour will take you through Cusco, the Sacred Valley , Machu Picchu and as an added bonus Moray and Maras!

ITINERARY

DAY 1 -ARRIVE TO CUSCO

After arriving in Cusco, you will be taken to the hotel and then join your guide for a briefing of your tour. Then, you will go on a city tour of Cusco to enjoy the sites the Imperial city of the Incas has to offer. The remainder of the day will be yours to explore at your leisure. 

You have the option of taking a free walking tour, places visited will be: 
  • Plaza Regocijo
  • Plaza de Armas
  • Plaza Nazarenas
  • The town of San Blas
  • Main square of Cusco
  • The stone of 12 angles
  • San Pedro Market

This tour will be about 2 hours.  

DAY 2 - EXPLORING CUSCO
After breakfast, you'll be picked up from your hotel and taken to the Urubamba Valley  to visit the following places: 
  • Pisac -  famous for its indigenous market held every Sunday
  • Urubamba - where we will have lunch
  • Ollantaytambo - the oldest occupied town in South American. 
  • Chinchero -  famous for its indigenous markets as well

Towards the end of the tour, you will be returned to the Main Square in Cusco.





DAY 3 - ON THE WAY TO AGUAS CALIENTES   

 In the morning, we will pick you up and take you to the train station. The train leaves at 11:30 am, you'll go on a 3 and a half hour ride until you arrive in Aguas Calientes.   

Things to do in Aguas Calientes

Visit the Machu Picchu Manuel Chavez Ballon museum and orchid exhibition.  It is a 35 minute walk from Aguas Calientes to Puente Ruinas. You can also go to the hot springs.  Entrance is 10 soles per person. 

DAY 4 - MACHU  PICCHU IN ITS GLORY

Today, your guide will pick you up from your hotel so you can take the bus up to Machu Picchu. You will catch the sunrise and then begin your 2 hour tour through the site.   Afterwards, you can explore the citadel by yourselves. Then, you will meet your guide back in Aguas Calientes for lunch and be given your train tickets back to Cusco. The train will take you to Ollantaytambo and then you will take the bus back to Cusco. There is the option to climb Wayna Picchu. This climb will need to be booked in advanced in order to schedule a spot. There are two time slots: 7 - 8 am and 10 - 11 am. We recommend the 10 am spot. 


DAY 5 - TIME AT LEISURE

Today, you have a free day to enjoy at your leisure exploring the city of Cusco or taking a tour to Maras and Moray.

MARAS AND MORAY TOUR Option:
            
You'll be picked up and taken to Moray considered an Incan agricultural greenhouse or laboratory. Then, we will drive for about an hour and 20 minutes through the Andes and fields of wheat until we reach Moray. This Incan site displays amphitheater like terraces, which are carved deep into the earth in a bowl shape. After exploring this site, we will visit the salt mines of Maras. This village is known as the former salt producing center thought to date back all the way to pre Incan times. There are over 3000 salt pools carved into the mountainside. The salty water emerges at a spring and it flows into an intricate system of tiny channels constructed so that the water runs gradually down onto the several hundred ancient terraced ponds. The water is exposed to the sun and leaves salt behind.  Ending our tour, we will drive back to Cusco.




CUSCO CITY TOUR- Half Day Option: 

On this half day city tour of Cusco, we will visit the following places: 
  • Koricancha: Temple of the Sun
  • The Main Cathedral: Marvel at the religious art
  • Sacsayhuaman: Majestic place with impressive works in stone, some up to 120 tons
  • Q'enqo: A center dedicated to the Earth.
  • Puca Pucara: Used as a military control center
  • Tambomachay: A center dedicated to Water.

DAY 6 - DEPARTURE FROM CUSCO

You will have the morning to enjoy the city of Cusco more. In the afternoon, we will transfer you to the airport so you can catch you flight back to Lima.
